Today I had a tutorial on Flash which went over the basics of the program. I learnt how to re-use images and also how to manipulate them. I also began going through what action script was and how to work with tweening. We were also introduced to working with frames and how to insert the key frames. Overall the tutorial was very helpful and worked as a great starting point to learning Flash. I had previously used Flash before and the tutorial worked well at refreshing my mind.

I was introduced to the Screen Based Communication project today and the unit brief, going through the structure of the unit and what we would be learning and producing. I found the briefing very helpful and gave me a strong insight into what I will be doing.

Today I began refining my final piece in response to the feedback given and also through my own thoughts and ideas on the design. In order to save time refining the five posters that I had created, I decided to take one of the poster designs and work towards improving it and developing a second dimension to work alongside it. I simplified certain areas of the poster by removing un-needed text and taking away part of the "make sense" identity. I also altered the arrangement of subject matter slightly and added in a photographic image of my ear to replace the illustrative image of an ear. I also imrpoved the wording of text in the lower section of the poster. Once I had refined the poster I began refining my second dimension which would be an iTunes banner for a webpage, working to allow iTunes users to purchase songs and have a percentage of money from the purchase go to WarOnWant.

Today I had a group crit with the whole glass. I was able to look at the work of everyone else on the course and give and recieve opinions. I recieved some strong feedback which consisted of possibly using photographic imagery instead of illustrations to enhance the realism wihtin the posters and relate them more to the viewer. I was also advised about simplifying the design, possibly through the use of removing the lower part of the "make sense" identity that I had created and also by shortening some areas of text to simplify the message. Overall I was very pleased with the crit and found it quite helpful to work towards improving my final piece.

The day was kicked off with a brief re-cap over what we would need to do throughout the week in the lead up to the hand in of the Visual Thinking project. We were also reminded to bring in our CV for next week in order to start working towards obtaining a work placement.

After the re-cap I began carrying out some work on my final piece designs, refining key areas in preperation for the final crit tommorow.

On Monday the 11th of January I came into Uni to hand in my essay, making some final touches beforehand.

On Tuesday the 12th of January I carried out some self-directed work, working on the presentation of my sketchbook. I carried out annotations and mounted in relevant work. I then came into Uni to return some library books.

On Wednesday the 13th I had a crit for my final piece of design work. I felt the crit went well and allowed me to see what kind of progress I was making.
